The Mayan Ball Game

Today I witnessed the ball game being played. It is a sacred sport to the Mayans. In the game the ball represents the moon and the sun and the court represents the earth. Mayan warriors and kings played it violently; even some of the losers were killed. Then they would put the head in front of the court. The court that they played on was shaped like an “I”. The court was 25 feet wide and 75 feet long. The players that I saw had lots of amour on and they played with a rubber ball that is 6 inches in diameter. Luckily the game I saw was a little less competitive and no one was killed. If you were to describe to somebody what the game is like you would tell them that it is a mixture of volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Two teams would try to score by shooting the ball in the small hoop that was very high off of the ground. In fact it was so hard to score that the people watching would have to give their clothing and jewelry to the players when they scored. In the game that I watched the players were nice and didn’t make me give them anything though.
